Exposures Kickstarter A Success!

Thank you to the 239 individuals who pledged their support, the more than 1,000 people who helped spread the word online, and to all of those who offered their expertise and encouragement throughout our recent Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for the 2013 Exposures Summer Program. We are inspired by the generosity of old and new friends alike! Your contributions made the campaign a success, and brought us well beyond our goal! Excitement is in the air as we embark on the next few months of preparations for the summer. Since the campaign ended, we have been busily informing our participants that we will indeed hold the 2013 Exposures Summer Program and have begun putting plans into action! We are deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this possible, and look forward to keeping everyone informed about the progress and events of our 2013 Summer Program!

Announcing: Exposures’ Kickstarter Kick-Off!

We are excited to rally past, current and future donors as we launch our Kickstarter campaign to fund the 2013 Exposures Summer Program!

The campaign will raise funds to bring youth from Exposures’ diverse partnering locations together for our 2013 Summer Program on Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, where they will spend three weeks living, learning and creating together.

No youth is ever turned away if unable to contribute financially.

Your donation will allow young people from limited means to explore culture, collaborate artistically and share stories that will change their lives.

Visit our Kickstarter page between February 12 and March 10th to find out more and to make your contribution.  Be sure to sign up for our e-mail list now to follow the Kickstarter campaign from beginning to end and track our progress as we work to raise the necessary funds for the 2013 Exposures Summer Program!

Exposures Participants Awarded Scholarships

Pine Ridge Exposures participants Nathan and Charlie joined us for the 2012 Summer Program in July, where they had the opportunity to view Rebecca Norris Webb’s photography exhibit, My Dakota, at the Dahl Art Center in Rapid City, South Dakota. A few months later, Nathan and Charlie both received scholarships to participate in a photography workshop at the Dahl Art Center with the noted photographer herself, Rebecca Norris Webb!

Tia, an Exposures participant with Street-Level Youth Media in Chicago, received a scholarship from the Farther Foundation to participate in our summer program at Pine Ridge Reservation. After returning from the program, Tia’s essay and photograph of her experience with Exposures won her additional accolades from the Farther Foundation. Read more about Tia’s awards here.

Chicago Youth Featured on Cowbird

During our Fall 2012 Exchange programming, Exposures youth in partnering locations contributed their photographs and stories to Cowbird, an online story sharing platform. Just a few days after Thanksgiving, Jessica from Chicago was chosen from the thousands of contributors to have her work featured as the Cowbird Daily Story e-mailed to all Cowbird users. In addition, a number of Exposures participants had their work featured on the main page of the website throughout the previous week. Exposures Hosts First Open Project!

During Spring 2012, we hosted our first Open Project and invited individuals from around the country and the world to contribute photographs of horizon lines in their regions. Photographs were collected in our online gallery, and combined to create an extended horizon line for exhibition in Chicago and Vermont. Click here to view the online horizon line gallery!
