Exposures youth participants, facilitators and program staff have come from southern Vermont, Chicago, the Navajo Nation in Arizona, the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, and New York City. Most youth become involved in Exposures through schools or arts and community organizations in their home regions, which partner with Exposures during spring and fall Exchange programming as well as Exposures Summer Programs. The artistic skill level, cultural background and travel experience of Exposures’ youth participants is as diverse as the communities from which they come.
“What is foremost in my mind now is the sense of family I have come to feel towards the people on this trip and surrounding this place. That to me is one of the most amazing things: That a group of near strangers can come together and form a family in such a short time. A Lakota man told us that the best and truest leaders are the ones that give everything away, and seeing that sentiment reflected in all of you who have organized this trip has shown me how being trusted breeds responsibility. I think I have grown, strengthened and changed out here and I have learned so much, about photography, Lakota culture, wholeness, humility, generosity and tradition. This has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life.”

Exposures works with groups in partnering locations to offer programming designed to instigate meaningful, creative conversation among youth from distinct geographic and cultural regions. Exposures Exchange programming is led by facilitators at these current partnering sites:
Las Fotos Project
Los Angeles, CA
The Open School
The In-Sight Photography Project
Exposures is a program of The In-Sight Photography Project. In-Sight offers students a creative voice and outlet, an opportunity to experience success, tools for self-awareness and self-worth, and encourages them to become actively engaged in their communities. We offer year-round youth photography courses in southern Vermont, and partnership programs with other youth and community organizations. Young people involved with In-Sight not only acquire technical skills, but also develop a new and powerful language of communication. Visit In-Sight online to learn more about our staff and local classes.
